Great Little Machine![]()
The Good:
*Value: Does the job that iPod Nano does at fraction of a cost.
*Voice Recorder: High-Quality Voice recording with a press of a button.
*No batteries needed: Charges via USB cable to the PC/laptop.
*Has options that many other MP3 players do not have.
The bad:
*No AM Radio: While having FM Radio is great, it leaves AM radio to be desired.
The Bottom Line:
A great alternative to Apple or other popular MP3 product out there. It does the job other more expensive players do and then some. You can play music, videos and view pictures. However, you can also view e-books listen to FM radio and even do voice recording. Measures at 2.5 x 3.5 x 0.5 inches in dimensions and includes a wrist strap and a pouch that can double as a cloth for the player. Displays time, date and includes some miscellaneous options such as play speed, EQ(bass boost, jazz, pop modes, etc) and supports many languages as well. While I never heard of a Transcend brand before, I will be sure to keep an eye open on their future products due to a great product such at this one.
Good Mp3 Player but has its flaws![]()
The T.sonic 840 is a pretty good Mp3 player that has some notable advantages over class leading Apple ipod. Unfortunately the interface and controls of the T.Sonic are no match for the Apple products, but at almost half the price of a comparable 4Gb Ipod, the Tsonic is well worth the price.
*** Postive Points Include: ***
- Clear and bright screen that is easy to read and great for viewing pictures
- The case has a metal back plate and glossy face that looks elegant and is fairly small and easy to carry.
- There is a highly adjustable equalizer to fine tune sound quality.
- The battery life is excellent.
- Good video playback once you use the included software to convert your files to the .mtv format. Unfortunately no other file formats are supported.
- Plays picture slide shows that look pretty good on its high resolution screen
- Built in FM tuner with 20 station presents
- Built in Voice recorder that actually records pretty well considering its small microphone
*** Negative Points Include: ***
- Controls take a little getting used. For example the wheel on the right side looks like it should be for volume but is actually to skip skip tracks.
- No SD or Micro SD slot so you cannot supplement the internal 4gb memory
- Headphones look a bit cheap but their sound quality is pretty good
- Charging is done by USB port only so you will need your computer turned on to charge the player. One work-around is that you could buy a powered USB hub and use it to charge the player without the need for turning on your computer.
- It will only play videos in the .mtv format, no other video formats can be played.
- Photos take a little bit of time to load on the screen (though I am sure if you shrink the photos to a smaller size they would load much faster)
Overall the T.Sonic 840 is worth the its minimalist price tag. It is not an Apple Ipod in the sense that it does not have the smooth touch controls or seamless interface but considering that it is less than half the price I think most people could happily live with it.
4 gig, 30 hours=good. Slow and awkward = bad.![]()
