Bought this from Walmart for $49. Total piece of junk. Followed directions and the software would not respond. Returning tomorrow.
Philips Listens (and Delivers)![]()
I bought this for my mom as a Christmas gift. She wanted a radio for on her desk at work and I thought this was a great dual purpose option – photos of her kids and some tunes to get her through the work day. I read the reviews after I placed my order and was very concerned she wasn’t going to get as much out of it as I had originally thought. But it was already on it’s way so I thought I’d give it a try.
When it arrived to my surprise it appears that Philips has listened to the customer feedback because a few of the issues identified by previous reviews have been resolve. First, you can now pick the default photo displayed in the `clock’ mode if you install a SD or USB card (instead of defaulting to the first photo on the disk card). You still can view the clock and slideshow at the same time, but this is a slight improvement. Second, you can listen to the radio and view the photo slideshow at the same time. I was very excited about this change because this is exactly what I wanted it to do for my mom. I purchased a 2Gb SD card and loaded it with family photos to include with the radio for my mom. I think she’s really going to like it. I’m so pleased I’m considering buying one for myself!
Really versatile clock radio![]()
First, keep in mind it’s a clock radio, so you shouldn’t expect too much. That said, it’s the best $60 clock radio I’ve ever seen.
FM Radio: It’s digital and pulled in stations I have trouble with on my other clock radios. 20 presets. It does not have an AM radio
Speakers: Sounds pretty good for a clock radio, better than I had hoped for.
It has an easy to use menu system to set the time and alarm and all the other features. Very intuitive. Didn’t open the manual.
It plays avi movie files. The size is only limited by the SD card or USB flash drive. Playback was seamless. It’s like watching a 7″ DVD player with a slightly poorer screen quality, but much superior sound. (No headphone jack though)
It plays MP3 files. It will cycle through all the files on the SD card (or USB).
It will play all the JPGs in a slideshow either fullscreen or in a window next to the time. It doesn’t look too good in the window but it’s not bad full screen, better than I expected. You can listen to music and watch the slideshow.
It has 3 nature type sounds to help you fall asleep. I would never buy a Brookstone for twice as much.
I could dim it enough for my tastes. However, if you like sleeping in pitch dark I could see that might be a problem.
I’ll probably buy another for a gift.
