Unbelievable. Meets and exceeds all my expectations5
So after a lot of deliberation and internet reviews searching, I bought the system yesterday. After two days of using this, I gotta say: I love this thing.

Reasons:
- it took me about 5 minutes to set this system up (I am not a audio pro or even avid technology user)
- the sound is terrific, deep bass, dialogue is clear. the sound is nice and definitely loud enough for me. (I have it set up in my medium-sized apartment living room, roughly 300 square feet)
- sound bar is super slender; fits discreetly under the plasma tv screen. the other ones at best buy were a lot bigger
- remote sensor is in the sound bar, so you can hide the

Downsides:
- subwoofer speaker requires it to be positioned on the right side (your right as you look at the tv)

product causes my tv to flash on and off2
I wanted to like this sound bar but it is going back tomorrow. At times it causes my television picture to flicker on and off. Others have reported this same problem. I’m not sure if my product is defective or if it just does not work well with my Sharp HDTV and Warner cable box. I do like the sound and I like the design concept but the product simply does not work in my home.

Really good sound on the cheap4
I had decided to replace my wired 5.1 speaker system w/ a sound bar and after reading all of the reviews here and on CNET, I decided to go w/ this one and am fairly pleased with the result. If you buy this sound bar, however, (and this has been written in other reviews as well, but it needs to be emphasized) you have to use HDMI. With HDMI, the sound is awesome, but w/o HDMI it is tolerable at best. After reading the reviews, I hooked it up both ways and boy they were right on the money. Don’t even think about this system if your components don’t support HDMI as it’s not worth it. The surround effect is pretty darn good, esp if you’re directly in front of the bar (which my couch is). One con is that the bass goes away at lower volume levels — turn it up a little louder than normal to get the full effect (IMO). One plus is that it works w/ my cable provider’s universal remote control ([...] as an AUX device, so I didn’t have to by another universal. I realize to get this system at this price point Sony had to sacrifice something, but you should know going it you can’t really equalize the sound field — you can only use their presets: Movie, Sports, Music, etc.. which is annoying but okay, something had to go. The only other thing I would add (esp if Sony reads these things) is that I wish this system came w/ various size subs — I would have liked to get a bigger subwoofer. The one that comes w/ the system is fairly small — the sound is good for movies, but if you run music through it from a sound system it doesn’t really get the job done.

All in all, I’m pretty happy with this system, esp. at it’s current price point and would recommend to any casual non-audiophile users.
